McKee Marsh at Blackwell Forest Preserve
McKee Marsh at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warenville, Illinois has a great 3+ mile long trail for hiking, biking and running. The main looping trail around the marsh is compacted gravel making it perfect for biking, it also connects to the Blackwell trail system and further onto Herrick Lake, then Danada if you are really looking for a longer bike ride.
We hiked the main loop around McKee Marsh which includes Bobolink Trail and we also added on Catbird Trail, in total it was about 3.3 miles round trip. Most of the trail was open and sunny along the way. Catbird Trail was wooded beneath the old growth Oak trees. The hike was moderately easy through rolling midwest fields, and there were some lookout points and benches along the way. A great spot for birding! On our mid-spring hike we saw an Eastern Blue Bird, Tree Swallows and Blue Jays. Overall it was not as busy as nearby Herrick Lake is on the weekend.
