Experimenting with 35mm FuijiFilm
Fuijifilm is one of the most well known color films out there. It’s been around since 1976 and has a lengthy history of being one of the best color films on the market. I wanted to test it out on a nice sunny spring day with my Nikon FM10 and 50mm lens.
With these shots from the dog park, you can see just how much those shadows really fall into place.
I love the contrast in color here from the green pine tree to the deep sky blue.
The balance between highlights and shadow is so nicely evenly matched.
So happy to get a nice little sunburst here. It’s been a mintue since I have tried this technique on film. Its pretty simple really, bump up your aperture to F16 or so (and higher), let your subject fall into shadow. Point directly towards the sun and let the sun bounce off of your subject so that you just get a glimpse of its light. The result is a sunburst!
Should have exposed this one a little brighter.
Tree details. For some reason when I’m shooting vertically, I feel like I have to get one similar to it. That might just be my storytelling brain for a blog post or something. Because they are fine on their own, but still I need two. It is a nice balance seeing the contrast between the straight-on shot versus looking up with a lower aperture.
This one was all about that little cloud.
These next two, I honestly did not know how they would look with such a similar color in the background. I tried to incorporate a little bit of the sky just to balance it out a bit.
They both turned out lovely, especially with the lower aperture. When I’m not sure over background color, I know that having a lower aperture will separate things nicely for the final product.
This is one of my favorites from the roll.
Another one where I should have made it a little brighter. Note to self: stop up a little bit more with the Fuijifilm to pull more of the shadows.
The last shot. I could say it over 1,000 times, the first and last shots are always a favorite because I never know how they with turn out. I love the little tear here.
